Election Anxiety

With the election face off between Biden and Trump the next seven months will be full of angst and tension. No one is neutral about the situation. And some if not many are in a full blown anxiety state. It’s understandable given the real fears that democracy itself might be at stake. But spending endless days in an anxious state doesn’t change the outcome for the election. But it will change the outcome for us. Our bodies are not designed for this level of chronic stress. This the time to take seriously and practice self care strategies. These well researched strategies can restore your calm state. Learn to practice deep breathing repeatedly thought out the day, and especially when you feel the elevation of your anxiety. Learned and practice breathing and other calming strategies like mindfulness and quiet meditation. Engage in activities at bring you distraction and joy. Take walks and spend time with friends and family where the topic is not the election. The anxiety will resurrect of course but you can reduce it at will with these strategies. Your sympathetic Nervous System will rise with the least trigger. But these techniques bring your parasympathetic nervous system into play which counteracts your elevated system. Learn these and practice these techniques until they become habits for you health. It will work out. It’s how your organism was created.
