Words of Wisdom & Conviction

Human change is difficult. It’s a life long process. We are formed by our genes, our nurture, influences, temperament and a never ending lifetime of experiences along the way. We know this and we are in a constant state of awareness about what we would like to change about ourselves. Do I want to become more mellow? Would I like to unwire my anxiety trigger? Can I successfully navigate the consequences of past experiences both pleasant and traumatic? As a psychotherapist these are the questions I ask others – but I ask myself these as well. It’s a challenge to feel grateful for my gifts and experiences. It also includes regrets about what was missed. But wisdom tells me to cease the neurotic struggle and choose to embrace the blessings of today, the relationships of today and the promise that my life has more chapters to write. I will not give up or short change whatever future is still before me. I do it with prayer and relationships and learning. So should we all!
